Timber Home Nation

A community of timber home enthusiasts and those who love energy-efficient homes

so we are in CA and have just bought a hunk of land in OK, and thats is where we are going eventually
the problem is that although we know alot about building, we don't know much about timber homes.
ok so we got tons ( I mean it...) of info from sellers/venders etc. but there is not many real "videos" that we have found to see what actually happens, and all the "shows" are in the east...
another question is will someone come to meet us and talk to us about what we want and tell us the process?
and of course we are going thru the same things everyone else is right now and want to be sure how/when we spend any money
thnx to any/all
samm

Hi Samm, I am a structural engineer and used to work in Lake Tahoe and LA area. Where in CA would you like to build your new house? I will be happy to give you some contact information of the contractors, architects and structural engineers specializing in timber construction.

If you could find a local architect with timberframe experience, he/she could explain the process. I happen to be an architect with timberframe experience (but am not local and not licensed in OK). I worked for one of the larger companies for 2 years. If you have information from different companies it can be very confusing. The national companies offer packages that can be considerably different in content and types of materials, the local timber framers can be excellent or not, and don't always provide as complete a service as the national companies. I can offer phone consultation if you are interested. Send me an e-mail: tmharchitecture@comcast.net

I could tell you I did, namely, designed the home and found a "framer" and participated in the construction and raising and I am now doing the finishing work. I also have some video of the construction project.
